A big shout out to the Mount Pleasant community for the overwhelming response and support for the 70 plus people who lost their homes in the devastating apartment building fire on E 10th.
The contributions filled an empty store which was generously donated by Kingsgate Mall. Community volunteers worked with Mount Pleasant CPC and Business Improvement Association staff to sort, display and assist the evacuees.
The MPCPC worked closely with the City of Vancouver’s Emergency Response Team to ensure all the evacuees received gift cards and had access to donated goods.
- 33 community volunteers worked at the distribution centre
- Dozens of community members donated goods and gift cards.
- 157 volunteer hours over nine days
- Remaining items were distributed among 10 nonprofits.
We heard repeatedly from the evacuees how touched they were with the outpouring of support from the community. One said “she could feel the love” entering the distribution centre.
Thank You Mount Pleasant!
